Webber Creek Trail

Webber Creek Trail

A backpacking adventure with the boys!

We left the Webber Creek Campground at 11:00 am.  Yes, a little later in the day than we had planned.  Andy knows after being married to me for this long, that I am always just about ready.  It is a hike I have wanted to do for awhile now. Andy and I have taken the kids a little ways along the creek many times fishing but have never really made it very far. It is a rocky, steady incline, moderate difficult hike.

The weather was perfect for hiking, with temperatures being close to 70 degrees.  The hike was a little over 7 miles to the lake. In this picture to the side you can see that I am carrying a FULL, HEAVY, pack.  Yes, a few times I thought I might die! We made it though and it was completely worth it and we arrived at 5 pm. The lake had receded from what it once was and you can see this in the  above photo.  It was still beautiful! We did have a bit of worry as the water source is not quite what we had thought it would be. We took our water bottle filtration system for the first time and it worked great.  We also took our LifeStraws.  Luckily, there was a beautiful creek with clear water flowing southwest (far side) of the lake. We set up camp, ate our dehydrated dinners, and guess what? We went for another short hike to the second lake.  We are totally crazy!  We saw mountain goats on the cliffs above us. It is another beautiful lake that is much bigger than Lower Webber Lake. It did take some navigating to get to it because of the snow.  I slept like a log!  A snoring log! LOL!

This is the morning selfie after first backpacking into camp!  It was an awesome morning with light hitting the mountains and the water.  There was a minor annoying bird chirping at the crack of dawn.  I have a sleep super power and went right back to sleep, but the rest of the family did not inherit my superpower. We made instant oatmeal which was a fail because I brought plain instead of strawberry. We are definitely a fruit in the instant oatmeal kind of family.

The hot chocolate was a big hit though!  Just boiled water and added instant packets of hot cocoa.

After packing up camp, which I must add: Andy said we would be hitting the trail by 7 or 8 in the morning, but again Andy knows me and we left at 9:30 am.  The clouds were building up causing us to move off the mountain a little faster than normal.  We only had a few rain sprinkles hit us. Yay for no downpour!  The above pic is of us taking a break on the way down.  It was a cooler day today which was a blessing.

Life is good.  There is nothing better than a ice cold Diet Coke after a 2 day hike drinking filtered water.  People who know me know I really don't drink water.  I drank so much filtered water it was unreal!

Tonight I am going to sleep good in my own bed. I am planning to sleep like a log, a snoring log!  This was such a fun adventure and I am counting down the days to do it all again.
