Throw Back Thursday

Thow Back to Glacier 2016! I was thinking about our trip almost four years ago to Glacier National Park!  I do not know how four years have gone by. It was such a fun trip, my family still talks about it as one of their favorite family vacations.  The drive is not that long and is pretty. We ate some good food, stayed in some hotels.  We did a little hiking this trip but not as much as we would have liked. This was one of the most beautiful lakes on our trip. Glacier is full of beautiful lake views.  I love water views, mountain views, lush forests, and wildlife.  Glacier has them all.  This was the view from our hotel on Lake McDonald. This is the view from our hike. It was a little chilly, even for the middle of July, rain curtailed our plans but we still saw some epic views. We took a hike along the Trail of the Cedars, an enchanted forest if I ever saw one!  We also saw Avalanche Creek and Gorge. The rivers, streams, and creeks all had Andy in a full grin. He didn't fish this t

Targhee Trail Take 2

Targhee Trail Take 2 Andy and I both had a rare Wednesday off today. We quickly packed some things last night and headed to a family cabin in Island Park.  It was cold this morning so we were in no hurry up the hill. I did some homework and made some breakfast.  We started at the trail head at 11:40.  As mentioned previously, the boys are always waiting on me, even with no primping to do:0  The views even from the trail head are beautiful. There were a few vehicles in the parking lot and a few campers in campsites.  We only came upon one other person on the trail early on in the hike.  The weather was cool but not rain this time!  As you can see there was a fresh new powder dusting on the mountains from the storm last night.  It is a perfect frosting on the mountains.  Yum! Frosting sounds good after our hike. The creek has gone down a lot from just Saturday.  We hiked farther today than we had time for the last Saturday.  We came to a bridge, let's just say, I was more than a litt

Hike Gone Wrong

Hike Gone Wrong Well its was my turn to write a post, so here it goes. Saturday, June 6th started out better than expected. The weatherman had been predicting rain and snow for the weekend, somehow they got it wrong. It was over cast and cool out, but not too bad. So, I figured it was a good  excuse to go for a short hike and maybe get some fishing in. . So Lyssa and I got ready, loaded up the kids, and headed to Island Park. Saw some pretty meadows  with flowers and other scenery along the way. So I'm feeling good, and get this idea, let's go somewhere new. We head over to an area that has a old abandoned logging road. I look at the map and tell the family, all we got to do is follow this road about a mile, and that should get us fairly close to a stream, seems easy enough. Upon arrival I should have known it was a bad idea when we parked at the gate. The logging road is on the map, were standing where the road should be, but the road isn't really visible.  Not g

Impromptu Hike Near Warm River

Image
Impromptu  Hike Near Warm River On Sunday May 31 we were on our way home from Island Park taking the scenic route.  We saw a cow elk in the trees while driving. (Not pictured here). The wild flowers are amazing right now. We decided to go for a hike beginning near the old fish hatchery at warm springs.   There were quite a few people at the springs and parking area but it didn't take us long to leave the people all behind.  This is the trail marker at the beginning of the trial. We took the moose creek trail which is a switchback trail over the mountain.  The trail does not appear to be heavily traveled and has a few down falls.  Nothing though that is too impassable. It is a quick short hike to the other side of the mountain to a spring creek marker. It was a beautiful warm day.  Andy fished a little catching a lot of little fish.  All catch and release. There is a need to cross the creek if you head along the trail downstream. We went upstream hiking
